AJ LIM MAKES QUARTERFINALS IN TIANJIN TOURNAMENT

Reigning Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open champion and Cebuana Lhuillier sports ambassador Alberto "AJ" Lim Jr. advanced to the quarterfinal round at the ITF M15 Tianjin Tournament in China.

Lim displayed remarkable tennis skills and determination in overpowering local contender Hanyi Liu with a decisive 6-1, 6-3 victory on Wednesday, June 26.

In the tournament's opening round, Lim outlasted 24-year-old Sheng Tang, 7-5, 3-0 (ret.).

Riding high on recent back-to-back title wins in Lucena and Butuan, Lim entered the Tianjin Tournament with confidence.

Against Liu, who peaked at No. 719 in the ATP rankings, the Filipino netter showcased his dominance by taking the first set 6-1 after a blazing start.

Despite a more competitive second set, Lim's broke loose from a 3-3 tie and won the next three games to secure his victory.

Cebuana Lhuillier President Jean Henri Lhuillier expressed his pride in Lim's achievements.

"We have always believed in AJ's potential to dominate the tennis field. His performance in Tianjin so far has been nothing short of excellence. We are truly glad to be able to work with this young talent and watch him become the best version of himself," Lhuillier said.

Lim will face another Chinese player, Zhenxiong Dong, in the quarterfinal round at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

At 25 years old, Lim, a former world No. 12 in the ITF juniors' singles, has firmly established himself as the top-ranked men's singles player in the Philippines today.
