TRAIN STATION RAPE NOT AS FIRST DESCRIBED - POLICE

Police investigating an alleged rape at a railway station have said there is an "early indication" the circumstances are "not as first described".

Suffolk Police had been told that a woman in her 20s was dragged from Stowmarket station and raped on 7 April.

A force spokesperson earlier said: "Based on the extensive inquiries which have taken place, there is an early indication the circumstances of the rape reported on 7 April were not as first described."

Officers said they continued to work with and support the woman involved.

There was not a wider risk to local people, the force added.

"Officers continue to encourage anyone who believes they have been the victim of a sexual assault to report it to police," the spokesperson concluded.
