SERIOUS CRASH CLOSES MAIN ROAD THROUGH VILLAGE

A serious crash has shut a main road through north of Derbyshire.

Emergency services are at the scene of a collision which took place on Tuesday morning on the A61 Derby Road in Wingerworth, south of Chesterfield.

The road is currently shut between Lodge Drive and Longedge Rise.

Police have asked drivers to “avoid the area where possible”.

In a statement issued on its social media channel at about 09:45 BST, the force said: “The closure is likely to remain in place for some time.“

Police told the BBC they were unable to confirm further details of any injuries or vehicles involved currently.
