POLICE WANT TO TRACE MAN WHO HELPED RAPE VICTIM

A CCTV image has been released of a man who police believe helped a woman to safety after she was raped.

The woman had hurt her ankle before the attack and was outside Broughton House on Somerset Street in Bristol shortly before 01:00 BST on 15 March.

A man approached her and offered to help her home. He then carried her to Clarence Road and raped her.

Police believe the man in the CCTV may have helped her after the attack and could have valuable information.

The image shows him walking along Bedminster Parade carrying a shopping bag at around 01:55 on the night of the incident.

Police believed he helped the woman get to safety near ASDA in Bedminster and want to identify him.

The potential witness is described as wearing a light-coloured jacket, jeans and was carrying a bag.

The man who attacked the woman is described as being in his twenties and white, wearing black clothing with his head and face covered by a scarf.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary said the woman had been offered specialist support.
