POLICE ISSUE WARNING OVER OPEN WINDOWS IN SUMMER

Surrey Police has issued a warning to the public about leaving windows and doors open during the summer.

The force is urging residents to be vigilant when attempting to let cool air into their properties during hot weather.

“While the occasional cold breeze is to be welcomed - unexpected visitors are not,” a police spokesperson said.

They urged the public to close any doors or windows when leaving the home or in the later hours of the day.

“These could otherwise be seen as an opening by criminal opportunists,” the force added.

“Remain mindful and observant and, in any case of emergency, call 999.”
