PLYMOUTH FIRE CREWS RESCUE DOG FROM BURNING HOME

Firefighters have rescued a dog from a house after a blaze ripped through the property.

The fire, at a terraced home in Plymouth, was one of three which happened at residential properties across Devon on Monday, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) said.

All of the occupants were accounted for after the Plymouth incident, which happened in Luxmore Close at about 21:15 BST, DSFRS added.

The other two blazes involved a house in Totnes and a shed in Axminster, with no reports of any injuries.

Fire crews said the Plymouth blaze, which spread to the house from the front garden, had also affected a neighbouring property.

Five appliances from Crownhill, Camels Head and Greenbank tackled the fire, along with the incident support unit from Honiton.

A DSFRS spokesperson said "crews confirmed all persons [were] accounted for".

"One dog was located within the premises and rescued by fire crews," they added.

Earlier on Monday, fire crews from Totnes, Paignton and Buckfastleigh were called out to a fire involving a bungalow in Quarry Close, Totnes, which happened at about 19:15.

"A fire had started in the lounge and spread to the roof and other rooms," the DSFRS said.

An aerial platform from Torquay was also dispatched as two firefighting jets, two hose reel jets, thermal imaging cameras and breathing apparatus were used to extinguish the fire and stop any further spread to the rest of the property, the spokesperson added.

They said the bungalow was "significantly damaged by smoke and fire".

In another incident at 19:35, firefighters were called out to a fire involving a large shed in Axminster.

Crews from Axminster, Seaton and Colyton attended, using two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets.

The shed, which was gutted in the blaze, was close to a number of other wooden outbuilding, DSFRS said.

Fire crews used a compressed air foam branch to protect surrounding buildings.
