MAN STOPS DRIVER AND IMPERSONATES POLICE OFFICER
Police have issued a warning after a man driving a car with flashing lights stopped a motorist and impersonated a police officer.
Norfolk Police said the victim, a man in his 50s, was stopped on the Northern Distributor Road (NDR), near Norwich Airport, between 13:00 and 14:00 BST on 20 June and was questioned about his driving.
The force said the man posing as an officer did not show a warrant card, or have a utility belt, radio, police badges or epaulettes.
Ins Will Dummond said police were keen to "identify the car and the occupant".
"A police officer will always carry a warrant card and will produce it when asked," he said.
"If you're unsure about whether the person you're dealing with is a genuine police officer – stop – and call us on 101 to check their identity."
The man was described as wearing black trousers, a black fleece, black boots and a white police hat.
He was driving a 2023 plate silver or grey Mercedes A Class, fitted with flashing lights in the grill and windscreen.
Police want witnesses, or those with dashcam footage of the incident, to contact them.
