MAN DIES AFTER BEING HIT BY CAR

A man in his 40s has died after being hit by a car, according to police.

He was struck by a vehicle on the B1318 Great North Road in Jesmond, Newcastle.

Police said they received a report of the crash at 03:00 GMT on Thursday, and the driver of the car stayed at the scene.

The victim died a short time after paramedics arrived and his next of kin have been notified.

Northumbria Police has appealed for witnesses to come forward in order to establish the "circumstances of the incident".
