JERSEY ROAD OPENS 17 MONTHS AFTER FATAL EXPLOSION
A road in St Helier has fully reopened 17 months after a fatal explosion at a block of flats.
Ten people died as a result of the blast in the early hours of 10 December 2022.
A section of Pier Road was closed following the explosion to allow clearance of the site, for police and forensics investigations and for the demolition of surrounding buildings.
Last month, Jersey's infrastructure minister said the road could reopen on 10 May.
In response to a question from St Helier Deputy David Warr, Constable Andy Jehan said decisions to reopen Pier Road would only be confirmed following discussions with bereaved families and people who lost their homes.
An investigation into the cause of the blast is continuing, although the working theory for police has been that a gas explosion occurred.
In April, Police Chief Robin Smith said three men arrested after the incident had been re-interviewed and re-released on bail, but further arrests were "unlikely".
