CAMPAIGNERS ARRESTED OVER ALLEGED AIRPORT PLANS

Six people have been arrested by the Metropolitan Police over alleged plans to disrupt airports during the summer months.

The force said six members of Just Stop Oil had been arrested during an event at an east London community centre on Thursday evening.

Police said they believed some of those in custody were "key organisers" for the environmental campaign group.

The arrests were made under the section of the Public Order Act which makes it illegal to conspire to disrupt national infrastructure.

The force added: "We continue to work with airport operators and others to prevent significant disruption.

"Activists do not have the right to commit criminal acts that may also endanger themselves and others.

"Anyone who disrupts the safety and security of an airport can expect to be dealt with swiftly and robustly."
