ONE DEAD AND FIVE IN YORK HOSPITAL AFTER HORROR TESLA CRASH WITH DOUBLE-DECKER BUS

A man has died and five others have been injured following a crash between a Tesla and a double decker bus near York.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the fatal collision between a white Tesla Model 3 car and double decker bus on the B1224 Wetherby Road, near Rufforth, at around 9.20am on Saturday. Two air ambulances along with three other ambulance vehicles, a Hazardous Area Response Team and North Yorkshire Police attended the scene.

A 31-year-old man from the Newcastle area, who was a passenger in the Tesla, was pronounced dead at the scene with his family now informed and receiving support from officers, said police. And four other passengers in the car were also taken to hospital as well as the bus driver.

The driver of the Tesla, a 32-year-old man from the Teesside area, has suffered serious injuries while three other passengers in the Tesla and the driver of the bus were treated at hospital for minor injuries.

The B1224 remained closed while police carried out their investigation work but was reopened at 5.25pm. North Yorkshire Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward.

The force's statement read: "North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a fatal collision between a white Tesla Model 3 car and a blue and white double decker bus on the B1224 Wetherby Road, close to the junction with the A1237, at around 9.20am on Saturday (29 June 2024).

"Sadly, a passenger in the Tesla, a 31-year-old man from the Newcastle area, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His family have been informed and are receiving support. The driver of the Tesla, a 32-year-old man from the Teesside area, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"Three other passengers in the Tesla and the driver of the bus were treated at hospital for minor injuries. The B1224 road closure remained in place until 5.25pm. Witnesses to the collision or anyone with relevant dashcam footage are urged to come forward without delay if they have not done so already. We also want to hear from anyone who recalls seeing either the white Tesla car or the blue and white double decker bus in the lead up to the incident."
