'TULONG PAMBAON' PROGRAM HELPS STUDENTS FINISH PRIMARY EDUCATION

ONE of the most cherished Filipino values, the bayanihan spirit embodies communal unity, cooperation and civil efforts to address social issues.

This spirit drives the corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs of companies such as the Investment and Capital Corporation of the Philippines (ICCP), the flagship company of the ICCP Group.

A diversified conglomerate engaged in financial services, property development and exhibition facilities, ICCP Group aims to alleviate poverty, protect the environment and address societal concerns.

Companies under its umbrella include Science Park of the Philippines Inc. (SPPI), Pueblo de Oro Development Corporation and Manila Exposition Complex Inc., which operates World Trade Center Metro Manila.

The group's CSR programs, such as the "Tulong Pambaon" project, help to empower residents in the communities they serve. The bayanihan spirit shines through as employees volunteer their time and effort beyond their corporate responsibilities to contribute to these causes in their own meaningful ways.

A cornerstone initiative of the ICCP Group Foundation Inc. (IGFI), "Tulong Pambaon" provides a P20 daily allowance to underprivileged Grade 5 and 6 students in host communities. This allowance supports their basic needs such as food, transportation and school materials, encouraging them to pursue their education.

What started in 2011 with four beneficiaries has grown significantly over the years, especially since ICCP Group employees began participating in the program in 2016. This involvement led to more sponsored students benefiting from the program, supported by officers and staff from ICCP, SPPI and Pueblo de Oro.

The project is not limited to academically exceptional students but focuses on those with a strong commitment to education despite limited financial means, as determined through interviews with beneficiaries, teachers and families.

Through the generosity of sponsors, the "Tulong Pambaon" project continues to thrive. Currently, all 281 sponsored students across 23 partner-schools have completed their primary education, with some graduating with honors.

Established in 1997, IGFI is committed to building a better, brighter world for future generations. Its civic works are centered on working with nature to protect the environment, empowering people and strengthening communities, and providing basic services to underserved communities.

The organization is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), as it aims to be part of a global movement to improve people's quality of life.
