TESDA ACCREDITS IFSU WEAVING CENTER TO CONDUCT ASSESSMENT IN LUZON

THE Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) has officially accredited the Ifugao State University (IFSU) Competency Assessment Center for Handloom Weaving (Upright) with National Competency 2 (NC2).

IFSU information officer Faith Belingon Napudo said this achievement makes the center which promotes traditional craftsmanship the first authorized facility to conduct weaving assessments in the entire Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and Luzon.

"The center is also the second Tesda authorized facility in the Philippines after it was evaluated by a Tesda team in terms of the center's readiness, including documents, tools and equipment, and the facility itself," Napudo said.

On May 20, 2024, a TESDA team consisting of regional office representative Daisy Jamorabon (participating online), provincial office representative Ellayne Abellera, and technical expert Adelina Ngopangop conducted the evaluation.

Napudo said this rigorous assessment resulted in the accreditation which allows the center to certify handloom weavers based on NC2 standards.

"The center is now accepting applications for Handloom Weaving (Upright) NC2 assessment," she said, adding that applicants can visit the Department of Extension and Training office at IFSU to process their application.

With an assessment fee of P1,298 only, the applicant is also required to submit a passport size ID picture.

In a statement sent to The Manila Times, IFSU said, "This accreditation strengthens IFSU's established role as a training and assessment center across various programs, including agriculture, computer science, tourism, hotel and restaurant management, and other technical courses."

"With the weaving center's accreditation, IFSU further solidifies its commitment to offering comprehensive skill development opportunities and preserving cultural heritage within the region," the statement added.
