SURVEILLANCE FOOTAGE SHOWS GIRL WALKING DOWN STREET BEFORE VANISHING

A 17-year-old girl's final moments before she went missing have been revealed in haunting surveillance footage.

Penelope Wise was wandering down a street near the Corner Bar in Rockford, Michigan around midnight on June 1 when she was captured on video.

The youngster, who suffers from mental health difficulties, was wearing a pink top, denim shorts and at one point appeared to glance directly at the camera.

Wise has been missing from her Cedar Springs home since May 31. Security footage released by Kent County deputies shows her walking on Rockford Park Drive, about five miles away from her home, later that evening.

Going on week five of the case, Kent County Undersheriff Bryan Muir is turning to the local community to aid in his search for Wise.

'We have 750 plus people at the sheriff's office, but obviously, right here in Kent County alone, we have 680,000 people that can be our eyes and ears for a case like this,' Muir told WZZM13.

'If you look past just the Kent County area into the local region, we just feel that there's more people out there that may have information than what our resources can find.'

'We still don't have any information as to where Penny is, and we wanted to make sure that the community is aware that we're still looking for her daily,' Muir said.

'We're partnering with our local and federal law enforcement partners, trying to use any technology or equipment that we have to locate her, but we really need the community's help right now.'

The undersheriff said that the community can help by checking their personal security cameras for footage of Wise, even those living outside of Rockford.

'Even though it may seem like a small tip or insignificant or you think we already have that information, the smallest tip could lead to the investigation, locating where Penny is at right now,' Muir said.

'We're really exhausting our resources to search that last known area,' Muir said. 'We believe it's a chance that she could be further away from where we're dedicating our search to right now.'

Despite having a rule against phones, Wise's parents discovered she had hidden one before she vanished.

Her parents said that Penelope has left the house briefly before, but never for more than a few hours.

'Our top priority is her safety,' stated Mishael Wise, Penelope's mother. 'We love and care for her deeply, and just want her to contact someone, anyone, to let us know she's okay.'

An $1,000 reward is being offered for anyone who knows of her whereabouts.

The Kent County Sheriff's Office said they do not currently suspect any foul play and said she left on her own. However, as the days go by, Muir said he has become increasingly concerned.

"We're going to work this case just as if it was a the newest case that we got. We're dedicating resources to it, and we're not taking those resources off until we can find where Penny's at," Muir said.

The Kent County Sheriff's Office asks that they be contacted if someone has a tip of Wise's whereabouts.
