NIA, VIA CONTRACT FARMING, EYEING P29 PER KILO RICE BY AUGUST

MANILA, Philippines — The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) plans to sell rice at P29 per kilo this August.

NIA administrator Eduardo Guillen on Tuesday said that there is already P20/kilo rice in select NIA Kadiwa Stores from the irrigators’ association as a token of appreciation to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.

“Sa NIA naman, mayroon din kaming project na malaki ngayon – iyong ating contract farming ano po and iyon, ganoon din ang ating ano. In fact, ang aming estimate diyan, nasa mga P29 puwede na kaming magbenta; by August naman kami,” Guillen said in a Palace briefing.

(For NIA, we have a big project – our contact farming.  In fact our estimate is we could sell it at P29 per kilo by August.)

One of Marcos’ most famous campaign promises was rice to be sold at as low as P20per kilo.

However, rice prices are still high, with some selling it at almost P60 per kilo—almost triple that of Marcos’ promise.
