MERALCO NAMES AREAS TO EXPERIENCE BROWNOUTS DUE TO NGCP ALERT STATUS

MANILA, Philippines — Some areas in Luzon may experience power interruptions on Tuesday due to low power supply to meet the demands, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said.

According to Meralco, this comes after the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) placed the Luzon Grid under yellow and red alerts on April 16.

Meralco said that the areas below may experience manual load dropping or rotational power interruption, which may last an hour:

Between 2:01 p.m. – 3:01 p.m.

  • Bulacan – Angat, Bustos, Malolos City, Norzagaray, Pandi, San Jose del Monte City, Santa Maria
  • Laguna – Calauan, San Pablo City
  • Metro Manila – Caloocan City, Manila, Pasay City, Pasig City, Quezon City, Taguig City
  • Quezon Province – Candelaria, Mauban, Sampaloc, Tayabas City

Between 3:01 p.m. – 4:01 p.m.

  • Batangas Province – Batangas City
  • Bulacan – Malolos City, Plaridel, San Jose del Monte City, Santa Maria
  • Cavite – Amadeo, Gen. Trias City, Imus City, Kawit, Naic, Noveleta, Silang, Tagaytay City, Tanza, Trece Martirez City
  • Laguna – Liliw, Luisiana, Majayjay, Nagcarlan, Pila, Sta. Cruz,
  • Metro Manila – Caloocan City, Manila, Marikina City, Parañaque City, Pasig City, Quezon City, San Juan City, Valenzuela City
  • Quezon Province – Candelaria, Lucban, Lucena City, Sampaloc, Sariaya, Tayabas City
  • Rizal Province – Angono, Antipolo City, Binangonan, Baras, Cainta, Cardona, Morong, San Mateo, Tanay, Teresa

According to the NGCP, a red alert status is raised when the power supply cannot meet consumer demand and the transmission grid’s regulating requirement, while a yellow alert is raised when the operating margin cannot meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
