LABOUR MP 'TALKED ROUND VOTER WHO ACCUSED PARTY OF TAXING CONDOMS'

A defending Labour MP has revealed they had to talk round a voter who thought the party planned to tax condoms.

Karl Turner was canvassing in his Hull East seat when he had the bizarre encounter with a confused constituent.

The frontbencher told the Guardian he 'met a guy who said he was going to vote Labour but wouldn't now because he had just heard that we were taxing condoms'.

Mr Turner explained: 'I said, ''condoms?'' ''Yeah,'' he said. ''I just heard on that (pointing to the TV) that you are taxing condoms, and I'm not having it. You're not getting my vote.''

The complaint baffled the Labour politician, before his Parliamentary assistant Terence 'worked it out' that the man had misheard the policy of abolishing non-dom status.

When Mr Turner told the man 'we're taxing non-doms, not condoms', he replied: 'Oh, like the prime minister's wife? Ah.'

According to Mr Turner, the man then called out: 'Margaret: they're taxing non-doms, not condoms.'
