ZAMBOANGA CITY MULLS CLOUD SEEDING OPS OVER WATERSHED

The local government of Zamboanga City is set to conduct cloud seeding operation over the Zamboanga City watershed to address the problem on low water supply.

According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the cloud seeding activity may help increase the supply of water in the city.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) and other agencies recommended the cloud seeding or the method to produce rain by pouring salt into clouds and it was validated by the concerned agencies through a site visit at the watershed two weeks ago.

“Karon, for approval na to, and then, the recommendation was done because there is an urgency for cloud seeding to be done didto sa watershed area aron i-complement kaning ulan particularly sa watershed aron motaas ang tubig sa suba - ang feeding source sa Zamboanga City Water District,” ZCDRRMO Head, Dr. Elmeir Apolinario, said.

The city government has to purchase the salt for the cloud seeding operation, which will be led by the DA and the Philippine Air Force (PAF).

Around P1 million has been allocated for the said activity.

Currently, the local government is waiting for the approval from the PAF and the schedule of the activity.

“We have to provide asin. Gipirmahan na namo, approved by the mayor, ug gi-submit na kana namo aron i-proseso sa concerned offices ug sa Bids and Awards Committee,” Apolinario added. — GMA Regional TV
