UP MINDANAO TO OFFER MEDICINE PROGRAM IN 2025

The University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao announced on Tuesday that it would open its medical school in 2025.

With this development, UP will be the first state university to offer a Doctor of Medicine program in Davao City.

UP ranked in the 401–450 bracket in the life sciences and medicine area in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings by Subject.

Aside from the medicine program, the university would also add programs in civil engineering, entrepreneurship, and two new Master of Science degrees: Quantitative Methods & Modelling, and Biology.

UP Mindanao said the MS in Quantitative Methods & Modelling seeks to upgrade the skills of applied mathematics and computer science graduates. Meanwhile, the MS Biology would feature four specialty tracks adopted from the Institute of Biology in UP Diliman.

The university said the Associate in Entrepreneurship and MS Biology programs would be offered starting Academic Year 2024-2025.

The expansion is part of its goal to improve its academic program and increase the number of students from the present 1,400 to 5,000 by 2029.

The university also aims to make the admissions process more inclusive.

“There is a need to update the current admissions system to ensure that Filipinos, especially the most marginalized, have greater access to quality education,” said UP President Angelo Jimenez. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
