STUDENT ARRESTED FOR PRACTICING DENTISTRY WITHOUT LICENSE

A third year dentistry student in Davao City was arrested in an entrapment operation for allegedly doing dental procedures without a license.

Elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Davao (CIDG-11), Davao City Anti-Scam Unit, and Philippine Dental Association-Davao Chapter arrested the student at his house in Barangay Bago Oshiro where the student was allegedly doing the procedures.

“Kanang murag braces siguro pero iyaha patong gi injectionan para mag-numb para dili na siya makafeel gani para dili musakit siguro. Mao toy gihimo niya. Naa man toy kauban to nga taga-CIDG, gidakop dayon siya,” Davao City Anti-Scam Unit Head, Simplicio Sagarino, said.

Authorities said the 27-year-old student has allegedly been doing the procedures for quite some time, even outside the Philippines, which makes him an international illegal dental practitioner.

“Actually mahal, when you say mahal, halos kapareho lang sa uban. He’s doing veneers and crowns and even bridges, gamit ang iyahang pabalik-balik nga micromotor. Gimonitor namo ni 3 months, last January, nibyahe adto og Taiwan, nag-ano didto, illegal practice of dentistry. Nibyahe nasab og Hongkong, gihulat namo na diri,” Davao City Anti-Scam Unit Consultant, Professor Carlos Capitan II, said.

The Philippine Dental Association has reportedly warned the student several times.

The student refused to give a comment. He is facing charges for violation of the Philippine Dental Act. GMA Regional TV
