SMUGGLED CIGARETTES SEIZED IN CAMIGUIN, SULU

The Bureau of Customs seized 350 reams of illegally smuggled cigarettes worth P280,000 in Guinsiliban, Camiguin.

The Bureau of Customs – Port of Cagayan de Oro (BOC-CDO) seized the reams through the implementation of a Warrant of Seizure and Detention on June 25.

Authorities were also able to seize a Wing Van Truck that was being used to transport the smuggled cigarettes.

This brings the amount of illegally smuggled cigarettes in Northern Mindanao apprehended by the BOC and PNP to P25,775,440.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard in Western Mindanao and Western Sulu and the Philippine National Police Maritime Group were able to seize 11 boxes containing a total of 120 reams of platinum brand cigarettes with an estimated value of P744,999 on a Passenger Vessel on June 28.

The cigarettes were turned over to the BOC on Monday.

According to BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio, the BOC remains committed to combating the smuggling of illegal tobacco in the country.

“Addressing and preventing the illegal tobacco trade practices requires a team effort. It is crucial to coordinate with other law enforcement agencies. Hence, we will double our efforts to work closely with the PNP and other enforcement agencies to put an end to these unlawful activities,” said BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio. --Jiselle Anne Casucian/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
