PUBLIC WARNED VS. INDIVIDUALS, ENTITIES CLAIMING TO BE BSP REPS

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on Thursday warned the public anew against parties illegally claiming to be representatives of the central bank to perpetrate scams and other fraudulent activities.

In an advisory, the central bank said there have been individuals and entities using the names or signatures of BSP officers or its name and logo in their letters, emails, messages, websites, or social media accounts.

These parties then use these to acquire information, as part of their method to perpetrate scams and other fraudulent activities.

"Bilang proteksyon sa sarili, iwasang magbigay ng personal at financial account information at huwag ding basta magpadala ng pera sa mga kahina-hinalang indibidwal o entity," it said.

(To protect yourselves against these illegal activities, refrain from providing personal and financial information to these individuals or sending money to unverified or suspicious sources.)

"Pinapayuhan ang publiko na suriing mabuti ang mga mensaheng natatanggap o transaksyong inaalok mula sa mga nagpapakilalang kinatawan ng BSP, at agad i-report ang mga kahina-hinalang mensahe," it added.

(The public is also encouraged to verify the authenticity of messages received from, or transactions carried out with, supposed BSP representatives, and to report suspicious individuals and entities.)

The BSP's official headquarters is located at A. Mabini St. corner P. Ocampo St., Malate, Manila, Philippines. The central bank may be contacted at (+632) 8811-1277 or 8811-1BSP or through email at [email protected]. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
