POLICE NAB RAPE SUSPECT AT NAIA

MANILA, Philippines — A rape suspect attempting to leave the country was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The 32-year-old male suspect, whose identity was withheld, was about to take his flight bound for Osaka during the arrest at Terminal 3 on Monday.

A July 1 report from the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group (Avsegroup) indicated that the suspect was stopped at the Bureau of Immigration (BI) due to an outstanding arrest warrant pursuant to Republic Act 8353, with Criminal Case 5891-B-2024, a non-bailable case.

The arrest warrant was issued by the Regional Trial Court of Biñan City, Laguna on January 23, 2024.

Brig. Gen. Christopher N. Abrahano, PNP-Avsegroup chief, said that the arresting officers used an Alternative Recording Device (ARD) "in accordance with the law."

He said that the suspect was informed of the nature of his offense and apprised of his constitutional rights.

The suspect was immediately transferred to Camp Crame police headquarters for legal proceedings, police said.
