PEACE ADVOCATES START 'ANTI-WAR' CARAVAN

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija: Peace advocates launched on Thursday the "Anti-War, Anti-EDCA Peace Caravan" to disseminate information on the negative impact of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) between the Philippines and the United States.

The motorcade will travel from Quezon City to Tuguegarao City in Cagayan, a distance of 474.3 kilometers.

The event was organized by groups under Sagip Pilipinas, including the Asian Century Philippines Strategic Studies Institute and the United Filipino Commuters and Consumers.

Among those who attended the media launch at the Quezon City Memorial Circle were The Manila Times columnist Francisco "Kit" Tatad, journalist and author Adolfo Paglinawan and broadcast journalist and author Herman Tiu Laurel.

"We want to pay homage to our national heroes who fought Western Imperialism to bring durable peace to our lands and seas," said Laurel.

Laurel added that caravan participants will give a plaque to Cagayan Gov. Manuel Mamba "for his exemplary appreciation of the global geopolitical crisis and the peril of hosting US military facilities."

He said after Luzon, Sagip Pilipinas will conduct anti-EDCA caravans in the Visayas and Mindanao.

"We intend to be in Iloilo at the end of June and in Mindanao in July," said Laurel.
