PCG HELPS CHINESE CREW WITH CUT THUMB IN ANTIQUE

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Friday said it has conducted a medical evacuation for a Chinese crew who cut his left thumb in the waters of Antique.

In a statement, the PCG said the 35-year-old second engineer of Hong Kong-flagged bulk carrier MV BBG Qinzhou was accidentally cut by a fan blade which resulted in severe pain.

From Nansha, China, MV BBG Qinzhou was heading to Tanjung Bara, Indonesia when the incident happened 20.69 nautical miles west of Semirara Port at around 9 a.m. on Thursday.

“In coordination with the captain and vessel’s agent, the PCG deployed BRP Kalanggaman to the rendezvous area at 1.5 nautical miles of Nogas Island, Anini-y, Antique,” the PCG said.

“The Coast Guard vessel safely evacuated the patient at around 6PM,” it added.

Four PCG medical personnel gave medical assistance to the injured Chinese crew while on the way to Muelle Loney Wharf in Iloilo City, according to the PCG.

After arriving at the wharf, the PCG turned over the Chinese crew to the vessel's agent who handled his transportation to the nearest hospital for medical attention.  —VAL, GMA Integrated News
