NO PLANS TO RUN IN 2025 – CHAVIT

FORMER Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson said he is not inclined to run in the 2025 elections and would rather focus his energy on serving Filipinos through his businesses.

In an interview on The Manila Times' digital video series "TMT Newsroom," Singson said he does not have any plans to run in next year's elections, adding that he is preoccupied with his job as the emeritus president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines.

Singson was the previous president of the league as Narvacan town mayor.

"I don't have plans yet; in fact, I did not run in the last elections and joined President [Ferdinand Marcos Jr.] in the campaign across all regions because I was the president of the Mayor's league. I did not run anymore, but still, the mayors elected me as a member and emeritus president of the league. I am just helping them," he said.

Instead of politics, Singson has devoted his time to bringing electric vehicles into the country through his LCS Group in partnership with Korean investors, which include electric jeepneys.

He said his investment in e-jeepneys was born of his desire to help jeepney drivers and modernize the transportation system.

Singson said his electric jeepneys would be sold at cost — but did not say how much — as a way to help operators in the transport modernization program.

"I just told the President I'll just provide for everybody. We can do it because in Korea, we have a lot of partners. I told them that I would do this as help; we won't seek a down payment or a percentage, but we will find the cheapest option," he said.

Singson said he aims to deliver a prototype electric jeepney by April 22.

Meanwhile, Singson said he will help former senator and presidential candidate Manny Pacquiao campaign if he decides to run again in the 2025 elections.

"We are now friends again, so I have convinced him to run for senator as he is so helpful. He needs to run as senator to help more people," he said.
