NO FILIPINOS INJURED IN 2 TAIWAN QUAKES

MANILA, Philippines: No Filipino was injured following two strong earthquakes that struck eastern Taiwan early Tuesday morning, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

The department had placed on alert its Migrant Workers Offices (MWOs) in Taiwan, after magnitude 6.0 and 6.3 earthquakes struck Hualien County around 2:26 a.m. on Tuesday.

"Initial reports from Filipino communities and leaders in Hualien County say MWO-Taipei indicate no overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) injured," the DMW said in an advisory.

The DMW also said MWOs were working closely with Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) Chairman Silvestre Bello III in reaching out to Filipino communities, as well as employers, local authorities, and trade associations in guaranteeing the safety of workers on the island.
