MARCOS URGES ANGARA: TEACH KIDS ABOUT PH HISTORY

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. said on Friday that he instructed incoming Education Secretary Sonny Angara to teach Filipino children about the country's history.

In an ambush interview in Sulu, Marcos said he had talked with Angara about their plans for the education sector.

''One thing I asked of him was to please teach our children Philippine history because I have seen my children's workbooks, and there's very little said about the history of the Philippines,'' Marcos explained.

Marcos also said he discussed simplifying the curriculum with Angara. He said they discussed having mini courses to increase the employability of Philippine graduates, aside from what the K to 12 program teaches.

''There are two elements that we paid attention to specifically, number one ginawa natin 'yung K to 12 dahil hinahanap ang years of training sa ating mga naga-apply at sinasabi dito sa Pilipinas kulang... that was the reason we did it para employable 'yung mga graduate natin pero kung titingnan natin ang naging resulta, hindi gumanda, hindi tumaas ang employability nila so we have to do something else,'' he said.

''We were examining things like mini courses, 'yung mga tatlong buwan, anim na buwan, one-year short courses para sa mga special team," the President added.

However, Marcos also emphasized that the government needed to coordinate with the private sector so that they would have a guaranteed supply of skilled workers who could come into their industries.

"So yung ganoong klaseng coordination ay importante,'' said Marcos. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
