MARCOS: GOV'T PUSHING FOR DEVELOPMENT OF JOLO AIRPORT

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Friday assured Sulu residents that the government has been pushing for the immediate implementation of the P100-million Jolo Airport Development Project.

During the distribution of presidential aid to farmers and fisherfolks in the province, Marcos said all aspects of the development project are being mapped out so that the  construction can start sooner.

“Kasabay ng pagbibigay namin ng ayuda ay ang magandang balita tungkol sa ating pagsusulong para sa Jolo Airport Development Project,” Marcos said.

(Aside from the distribution of assistance, we also have this good news of pushing for the Jolo Airport Development Project.)

“Kasalukuyan na po nating binabalangkas ang lahat ng kinakailangan para masimulan na ang proyektong ito at may nakahanda po tayong isandaang milyong piso na para pagsimulan nitong project na ito,” he added.

(We are currently mapping out all that are needed to start the project and we are ready with P100 million for the project to start.)

The airport's development project includes the construction of a Passenger Terminal Building, perimeter fence, administration building, relocation/construction of fire station building, site acquisition for its runway extension, and correction of runway strip width.

The processing of the Memorandum of Agreement with the provincial government for project implementation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, Marcos distributed over P10 million to the provincial government of Sulu as cash assistance to El Niño-hit farmers and fisherfolk of the province. The Presidential Communications Office said that it was the first time that Marcos visited Sulu as President.

The PCO said the dry spell destroyed more than P5.3 million crops in the province, causing losses to some 912 farmers. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
