MAKABAYAN BLOC AIMS FOR FULL SENATE SLATE

THE Makabayan bloc plans to field 12 senatorial bets in 2025, ACT Teachers Partylist Rep. France Castro said on Thursday.

The bloc also remains open to forming an alliance with "true opposition" groups, said Castro, who will run for senator next year.

She said the group also wants to field candidates from marginalized sectors.

As to whether the bloc was talking with other opposition groups, Castro said in mixed Filipino and English that "ongoing 'yan (that is ongoing)."

"Lahat kinakausap.... Siyempre kasama 'yung Liberal Party (We are talking to all of them.... Of course, the Liberal Party is included)," she added.

Rep. Arlene Brosas, whose Gabriela Women's Party is part of Makabayan, affirmed that the bloc is open to talks with the "true opposition."

On Wednesday, Albay 1st District Rep. Edcel Lagman, president of the Liberal Party, said it was possible that the party would field a maximum of six senatorial bets.

"We are not going to spread so thinly our logistics," Lagman said.

The filing of certificates of candidacy for next year's elections is in October.

The Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, whose chairman is President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., has created an alliance with the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats, the Nationalist People's Coalition, and the National Unity Party.
