LP HONORS ROBREDO'S DECISION NOT TO RUN FOR SENATE

THE Liberal Party of the Philippines said that it fully respects the decision of former vice president Leni Robredo not to run for senator in next year's midterm elections.

The former vice president, currently the chairman of the Angat Buhay nongovernment organization, confirmed her intention to run as Naga City mayor in a recent television interview.

"We wish for her success and triumph in whatever direction she chooses to take. We will always look up to her, not just as an excellent leader, but as an inspiration in facing challenges and responding to the needs of our fellow countrymen," the Liberal Party said in a statement in Filipino.

"We have no doubt that whatever path of service she will choose, she will do so with excellence and care for the Philippines and Filipinos," it added.

Robredo's name was hinted as a possible senatorial candidate in next year's polls, but party president Edcel Lagman said the opposition stalwart has opted to run as mayor of Naga City instead.
