LAS PIñAS VOTES TO RESET BARANGAYS BOUNDARIES

MANILA, Philippines — Residents of Las Piñas have voted to reset the boundaries of 20 barangays in the city, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced yesterday.

Based on the certificates of canvass released yesterday, 41,493 residents approved an ordinance delineating the territorial boundaries of 20 barangays in the city.

The Comelec recorded a voter turnout of 19.88 percent as 61,237 of 308,059 registered voters in Las Piñas participated in the plebiscite.

Up to 19,498 residents voted against Ordinance 1941-23.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia said a plebiscite does not usually invite much interest from the electorate so the low voter turnout was expected.

“We hereby proclaim that the ordinance delineating the territorial boundaries of the 20 barangays in Las Piñas City to conform with the approved Cadastral Survey of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources completed in March 2015, pursuant to Ordinance 1941-23 dated April 24, 2023, was ratified and approved by the majority of the votes cast in the plebiscite,” the city board of canvassers said.
