FIRE HITS PORTION OF UST HOSPITAL

MANILA, Philippines — A fire broke out on the fourth floor of the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Hospital in Manila before dawn yesterday.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the patients were evacuated to the UST gymnasium.

No one was reported injured, the BFP said.

Arson probers said the fire broke out at around 3:16 a.m. The blaze reached the first alarm before it was put out after one hour.

In a statement, the management of UST Hospital said necessary safety measures were taken to ensure the well-being of their patients and personnel.

“Only the fourth floor of the Saint Vincent Ferrer building was affected by the fire. We assure the public that the hospital services were not affected. Normal operations proceeded as usual,” the management said.

Arson investigators said they have yet to determine what caused the fire.
