EX-PRES. DUTERTE SLAMS REVOCATION OF PERMIT TO HOLD PEACE RALLY IN DUMAGUETE

Former President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday cried foul over the revocation of their permit to hold a peace rally in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, saying Malacañang could be behind it, Balitanghali reported on Wednesday.

“Nakakagalit, nadaanan ko ‘yung Freedom Park, ‘yun sana ang gusto namin. Nagpunta kami rito, nanghingi kami ng permit, binigyan kami,” said Duterte. “But nu’ng araw na dumating kami, binawi ‘yung permit at sinarhan ‘yung Freedom Park.”

(It’s infuriating because we want the Freedom Park. We went here and asked for permit, which was given to us. But when we arrived, our permit was revoked and the Freedom Park was closed.)

“Galing ito ng Malacañang, kasi sa Bustos, Bulacan, ganu’n din ang nangyari,” he added.

(This could be from Malacañang, because this happened also in Bustos, Bulacan.)

According to a Balitanghali report on Wednesday, the former President made the statement after the stage of Freedom Park in Dumaguete City was barricaded before the start of the event. He pointed out that such parks should be available to the public.

But according to the provincial government of Negros Oriental, Duterte and his team’s request to hold a prayer rally at the Freedom Park was made at “very short notice.”

“Unfortunately, the Provincial Government has already scheduled activities at the park beginning on May 6, in consonance with the Centennial celebration of the Capitol Building on May 17, 2024,” the provincial government said in a letter issued Tuesday.

The Negros Occidental provincial government also said that it suggested to Duterte’s team to hold their rally at the Quezon Park instead.
