EX-PAF CHIEF RAMON FAROLAN PASSED AWAY, SAYS DND

Former Philippine Air Force (PAF) commanding general Major General Ramon Farolan has died, the Department of National Defense (DND) said Thursday.

"Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with MGen Farolan's family, loved ones, and colleagues during this difficult time," the DND said in a statement.

According to the DND, it is ready to provide support and assistance to Farolan's family.

The DND acknowledged Farolan’s dedication, commitment in his career as well as his exemplary leadership and professionalism in his tasks.

"As we mourn the loss of MGen Farolan, the One Defense Team reaffirms our commitment to honor his memory by carrying forward his dedication, professionalism, and unwavering spirit," the department said.

Farolan was a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1956 and an esteemed pilot and commander with awards and commendations from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and all over the world, the DND said.

"Beyond his professional accomplishments, MGen Farolan was known for his compassion, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of service members under his command,” the DND said.

"He fostered a culture of camaraderie and unity, inspiring those around him to excel and uphold the highest standards of military service,” it added.

Farolan became PAF commanding general on February 24, 1986 after the EDSA People Power Revolution.

After retiring from the military service, Farolan was appointed Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia, a post he held for two and a half years. He also headed the Export Processing Zone Authority for two years. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
