DEPED KICKS OFF ENROLLMENT IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOR SY 2024-2025

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday opened the enrollment period for School Year 2024-2025 in all public schools across the country.

Based on Department Memorandum 32 s. 2024 signed by DepEd Undersecretary Nolasco Mempin, the conduct of enrollment in public elementary and secondary schools, including community learning centers, is from July 3 to 26.

The enrollment can be administered in-person, remotely, or through dropbox forms located in schools and barangay halls.

Meanwhile, private schools, state and local universities and colleges (SUCs/LUCs), and Philippine Schools Overseas (PSOs) that are offering basic education may adopt their own enrollment procedures consistent with their charters or school manuals, as well as applicable DepEd policies.

They have to report their official enrolment through their respective schools division offices on or before July 22. The PSOs shall submit their own to the Private Education Office.

At the Quezon City High School (QCHS), around 70% of the student population have already been enrolled, according to Mariz Umali’s “24 Oras” report on Wednesday.

“Meron ding mga private schools na transferee na galing sa ibang eskwelahan,” said QCHS Head Teacher Noel Villena.

(We have recorded transferees from private schools.)

“Siguro, iniisip nila sa mahal ng tuition,” Villena added.

(Their parents may be concerned about the high tuition.)

Registrations also began at Tandang Sora Elementary School in Quezon City, Fort Bonifacio High School in Taguig City, Samal South Elementary School in Bataan, and public schools in Zamboanga City.

SY 2024-2025 is set to start on July 29, 2024 and will end on April 15, 2025.

In May, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. approved the move to start reverting gradually to the old school calendar, ending the incoming school year earlier than originally planned.

Incoming DepEd Secretary Senator Sonny Angara is expected to welcome the incoming academic year, with the resignation of his predecessor, Vice President Sara Duterte, taking effect on July 19.
