CWC CONCERNED OVER REPORTS OF INAPPROPRIATE VIDEOS, PHOTOS OF KIDS CIRCULATING ONLINE

The Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) on Tuesday said it has received reports of questionable photos and videos of children from modeling shoots circulating online.

In a statement, the CWC said the photos and videos from these shoots shows the children wearing clothing and doing actions and poses which may be deemed inappropriate.

Even in cases where the motives of the parents, organizers and other stakeholders of the shoots are innocent, the council said, the images may pose a danger to children as they could be sexualized.

It added that these videos and photos spread through social media, in private groups, and on the dark web.

“Ito ay di nararapat na nangyayari sa mga bata, at dapat nating labanan o tutulan,” CWC said.

(Children should not experience this, and we should stop or oppose this .)

Sexualizing photos and videos of children through posting on social media or sharing in private groups is prohibited under RA 11930 or the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children Act.

“Sexualization of a child refers to the act of using a child as an object for the sexual desire or satisfaction of another, even if there is no actual sexual intercourse or no private part of the body of the child has been shown,” the law stated.

Those found to sexualize children by presenting them as objects or conversational subjects of sexual fantasy on online or digital platforms will be fined ranging from P800,000 to P1,000,000 and will face reclusion temporal in its maximum period.

CWC urged parents, guardians, photographers and agencies in the modeling industry to come up with a guideline on child modeling shoots to ensure the safety of children on online platforms.

It also called on internet service providers, law enforcement agencies, and the public to identify and report suspicious activities related to child abuse, especially online, by calling the Mabata Helpline at 1383.

CWC said it continuously coordinates with authorities to ensure that every child is safe from abuse and harassment. — Celine Serquiña/BM, GMA Integrated News
