COVID-19 CASES IN NCR NOW MODERATE – OCTA

MANILA, Philippines — Fewer people in the National Capital Region are testing positive for COVID, with the positivity rate returning to “moderate” level, the OCTA Research group announced yesterday.

OCTA fellow Guido David said the region’s seven-day positivity rate dropped to a “moderate” 19.9 percent on May 30 from a “high” 24.4 percent on May 23.

The positivity rate measures the number of people testing positive for the virus out of the total reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction or RT-PCR tests conducted.

The latest figures confirmed the decreasing trend of COVID cases following a spike last month, OCTA said.

On Tuesday, David said the reproduction number, which measures the number of people that a positive individual may infect, dropped to less than 1.0 on May 26.

Hospital occupancy in Metro Manila slightly decreased and remained low, according to David.

The Department of Health logged 1,279 new COVID cases, including 378 in Metro Manila on Wednesday, up from 855 cases on Tuesday.

Government data include RT-PCR tests only and not the more popular antigen tests.
