COURT EXTENDS PERIOD OF EXAMINATION OF HIGH-TECH GADGETS FROM ARRESTED CHINESE NATIONAL

A Quezon City court has given authorities more time to conduct digital forensic examination of high-tech and military-grade devices recovered from a Chinese citizen arrested in Makati.

According to Mark Makalalad’s report on Super Radyo dzBB, the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 90 granted the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group’s motion for extension of time to submit computer data.

“Considering the large number of mobile devices recovered from the place of arrest of Yuhang Liu, the Court finds it justifiable to grant an extended period of examination,” the Court said.

They were given until the end of the month to finish their examination.

In May, authorities arrested the Chinese citizen for pointing a gun in Makati City.

A Makati court earlier authorized the conduct of an examination on his gadgets after it found probable cause to believe that "illegal interception have been committed, are being committed, or about to be committed."

The items that will be checked include one Iphone 15, one antenna system multi-band directional, two pieces of battery units, one solar inverter, one radio receiver/transmitter, one huawei router, one Apple tablet, two mobile phones, one laptop, one inverter unit, one aerial drone, one CPU, and one portable power station.

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of the Philippines previously said that they were checking whether the devices they retrieved from the Chinese national were possibly used for communications hacking. --VAL, GMA Integrated News
