COURT DEFERS EXORCIST PRIEST’S ARRAIGNMENT

MANILA, Philippines — A Quezon City court yesterday postponed the arraignment of exorcist priest Fr. Winston Cabading for the charge of offending religious feelings.

In a statement, the Lay Catholic Initiative said the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 81 rescheduled the arraignment of Cabading to Aug. 1 due to a pending appeal before the Department of Justice.

Cabading was arrested and detained on May 13 even before he received the city prosecutor’s resolution finding probable cause against him, the group said.

The court allowed Cabading to travel abroad to visit his family. He was ordered to post a travel bond of P36,000.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines issued a certificate of good standing for Cabading on Wednesday, saying the Dominican priest “is not under any censure or investigation by the CBCP.”
