BILL TO HELP EX-MILF, MNLF MEMBERS CORRECT CIVIL RECORDS FILED

A proposed measure seeking to help former combatants reintegrate into civilian life through the facilitation of the correction of their civil records has been filed before the Bangsamoro Parliament.

Member of Parliament (MP) Abdullah Hashim — son of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) founder Hashim Salamat — filed proposed Parliament Bill No. 308, "Mujahideen Correction of Civil Register Entries Assistance Act of 2024", to provide verified ex-MILF and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) members with administrative, legal and financial support in updating their civil registry records.

These include pertinent documents such as births, deaths, marriages, annulments, acknowledgments of natural children and changes of name, among others.

Once enacted, an Ad Hoc Office under the Office of Chief Minister will be established to oversee its implementation as well as to conduct screening processes, guide applicants through the correction procedures, and provide necessary representation.

PB No. 308 outlines that the assistance provided will be phased out five years after the bill's effective date, unless renewed by subsequent legislation.

MPs Abdullah Gayak, Said Shiek, Ali Montaha Babao, Abdulaziz Amenoden, Ali Salik, Mohammad Kelie Antao, Basit Abbas, Atty. Nabil Tan, Albakil Jikiri, Dan Asnawie, Atty.
