ALMOST 600 INMATES RELEASED IN JUNE — BUCOR

A total of 562 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) in June, the agency announced Friday.

According to BuCor, this brings the total number of released PDLs to 14,657 from June 2022 to June 2024.

Corrections Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. said that of the 562 PDLs, 321 served their maximum sentence, 121 were acquitted, 98 were paroled, 21 were granted probation, while one was granted executive clemency.

He said that BuCor has also expanded the e-Dalaw system, which allows PDLs to communicate with their families and loved ones through calls and chats.

Of the over 14,000 released PDLs, BuCor said 8,129 served their maximum sentence, 3,592 were granted parole, 2,468 were acquitted, 356 probation, 52 granted executive clemency through commutation of sentence, and seven given executive clemency through conditional pardon.

Meanwhile, 35 were released on cash and bail bonds, seven were released on habeas corpus, and 21 others were released due to other modes. — Joahna Lei Casilao/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
