4-YEAR-OLD BOY SURVIVES DOG ATTACK IN PANGASINAN

A four-year old boy in Calasiao, Pangasinan suffered injuries to his face after he was attacked by a dog while playing on the street.

According to a report of GMA Regional TV’s Russel Simorio in Saksi, the dog’s owner paid for the anti-rabies vaccination of the young boy.

“Nagtakbuhan ang mga bata diyan tapos dumaan yung aso… Mabuti nga hindi nabulag,” said Marites Dela Cruz, the victim’s grandmother.

(The kids ran away when the dog arrived… It’s fortunate my grandson did not go blind.)

The Center for Health Development-Region 1 (CHD-1) advised the public to complete their vaccine doses against rabies if they are bitten by animals.

“Ang rabies po kasi kapag tumama sa isang tao at nagkaroon po ng sintomas, 100% fatal po ‘yan,” said Rheuel Bobis, CHD-1 spokesperson.

(Once the rabies infects a person and symptoms appear, it is 100% fatal.)

Records show that nine persons in the province have died due to rabies since January.

Further, Barangay Longos officials reinforced the policy of requiring residents to tie their dogs which penalizes violators with a P500 fine. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
