3 DEAD, 17 HURT IN FAIRVIEW, QC MULTI-VEHICLE ACCIDENT

Three persons died while 17 others were injured in an accident involving several vehicles in Fairview, Quezon City on Monday night.

The accident involved a passenger bus, a UV Express, a taxi, and five motorcycles, according to a report by James Agustin on Unang Balita on Tuesday.

Investigation by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Traffic Sector 5 showed that past 9 p.m. on Monday, at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Fairlane Street, a bus hit the motorcycles, then the UV Express, then the taxi.

One of the motorcycle riders fell under the bus. Rescuers had difficulty pulling him out but finally were able to bring him to the hospital. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

The other two fatalities were passengers of the UV Express, one of them a child.

The driver of the UV Express was among those injured.

The vehicles were still on the road past 11 p.m. Monday.

The windshield of the bus was damaged, while the back of the UV Express was flattened like an accordion.

CCTV footage showed the bus moving at high speed before the accident.

The bus driver is now in the custody of QCPD.

He said the brake failed, causing the accident.

The driver apologized, and asked for understanding as he said he did not want the accident to happen.

He will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries and damage to properties. —KG, GMA Integrated News
