1 DEAD, 1 INJURED AFTER SIBLINGS PINNED BY BOULDER IN DAVAO DEL SUR

An 18-month-old child died, while her four-year-old brother was injured after they were pinned by a large boulder while bathing in a river in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.

Wresly Marie Castillon, the victims’ aunt, said the children went with family members to the Sibulan River over the weekend to bathe and do laundry.

However, witnesses said it began to rain and a huge rock by the riverbank moved and fell on the small children.

“Ang kuya ko, agad na tumakbo. Napigilan pa niya ang bato pero dahil nga sa bigat nito, hindi na niya nakaya, nabitawan na niya ang bato,” said Castillon in GMA Regional TV One Mindanao's Rgil Relator’s report on 24 Oras on Tuesday.

(My brother rushed to save them. But he wasn’t able to stop the boulder because it was too big.)

Bystanders tried to helped to get the children from underneath the boulder. The rock was so heavy that rescuers needed a backhoe to lift it.

The victims were rushed to the hospital but the 18-month-old child was declared dead-on-arrival while her older brother is still undergoing medical treatment.

“Humihingi kami ng tulong sa inyo, pinansyal na tulong para sa dalawang bata upang maiayos ang burol ni Joyce at gayundin si Angelo na nasa ospital. Kailangan din namin ang panalangin ninyo,” said Castillon.

(We’re asking for financial help and prayers for my nephew and niece.)
