MOVE IT TO WORK WITH PNP FOLLOWING ROBBERY INCIDENT INVOLVING RIDER

Grab-led motorcycle taxi firm Move It said on Saturday that it would cooperate with the Philippine National Police to apprehend erring riders following a robbery incident in San Juan City involving one of its riders.

“[The two-wheeled ride-hailing company] is aware that there is always a possibility that unscrupulous individuals could join Move It or use our uniforms, with the end in view of concealing their intention to commit crimes,” said Move It general manager Wayne Jacinto in a statement.

“We assure the public that if Move It riders are indeed involved in any wrongdoing, we will be transparent about it, and we will utilize the technology in our app to trace the guilty parties so that they can be held accountable for their crimes,” he added.

According to reports, the San Juan City Police Station arrested on June 20 two suspects, including a Move It rider, after they robbed a woman inside her house on June 15.

The motorcycle taxi operator then helped the police identify one of the suspects.

It added that the suspect was also discovered to be working for another motorcycle taxi firm.

“We will also work to ascertain if Move It is being maliciously singled out in cases like these, as similar incidents in the past have involved suspects pretending to be Move It riders,” said Move It.

Aside from PNP, Move It said that it would also collaborate with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board “to determine what additional precautions can be adopted by Move It or other ride-hailing apps to keep commuters and the public safe from thieves utilizing this particular criminal methodology.” —VBL, GMA Integrated News
